Joseph M. Estock, Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors is a “third-generation” civil engineering and land surveying practice.
The business was founded circa 1950 by the late Donald H. Schurr Sr. of Norristown, Pennsylvania. Mr. Schurr started this firm after serving in World War II as a captain in the Marine Corps as a pilot who led more than one hundred dive bomber missions. After his time in the service, he returned to Drexel University where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering.
In 1954, after serving in active military duty during the Korean War, Joseph J. Estock began working for Mr. Schurr as a transit person.
During this period, Joseph J. Estock surveyed many of the postwar land subdivisions in the Norristown area. In addition, he surveyed for the construction of the Schuylkill Expressway.
In 1973, Mr. Schurr left to work for Yerkes Associates, Inc. and ‘sold’ the practice to Joseph J. Estock. Mr. Schurr transferred ownership of the business, clients, survey equipment, survey truck, and all supplies for $1500. That was a bargain!
From 1973 to 1992, Joseph J. Estock, along with his faithful employee, the late Castro “Sharky” Carangi continued the practice and upheld the strong reputation for quality work that Mr. Schurr began. In 1977, Joseph M. Estock began working with his father in the
land surveying practice during his high school and college summer vacations.
In 1992, Joseph J. Estock retired and Joseph M. Estock founded the practice known as Joseph M. Estock, Consulting Engineers & Land Surveyors.
